| In order to capture an opponent's piece, you must jump over it, diagonally, to the adjacent unoccupied square.
You can only jump one piece with any given jump. If you can jump, you must. If in the course of single or multiple jumps the man reaches the last rank, becoming a king, the turn shifts to the opponent. This 8x8 checkered grid is shared with chess, and commercial chess sets often include draughts as a secondary game, sometimes with backgammon, which would use the same pieces on a board on the inside of the traditional folding chessboard/storage box. Some international variations of the checkers game use a 10x10 or 12x12 board. |
